Food for The Soul
Do you look at the nutritional label before you buy a food product? Perhaps on occasion some of us do. Not necessarily by choice, I have for years checked the back side of the package before deciding whether to purchase a processed snack food or meal. That said, I also found that I tend to pay more attention to what I consume as I get older.
Earlier this year, the food pyramid was in the news as a result of the new FDA guidelines which have changed substantially since the previous recommendations were issued decades ago. (Probably needed to be revisited given the current health and obesity issues we have in our country). Being on a restrictive diet, there was some interest or curiosity on my part.
After reviewing the revised recommended daily allowances, I asked myself, will these new guidelines change the way I eat? Probably not. Whether they impact the way we eat here in the U.S. remains to be seen. Regardless, they could have an affect as to how our food is produced and processed.
After digesting the information, I then redirected my thoughts from bodily nutrition to spiritual nutrition and how I feed my soul. What are those dietary needs? After some contemplation I concluded that there were significant improvements that could be made. I then proceeded to make my own “Food for the Soul Pyramid”.
Will these guidelines change or enhance the way we live our faith? I hope that the answer is yes. As we mature, I think we naturally become more cognizant of our faith lives and how we live.
Catholic Men’s Fellowship is good food for the soul and we as brothers in Christ feed each other. I pray that we continue to focus on our spiritual health as well as how we nourish our minds and our souls. May God bless you and yours.
