How often do we meet?

We meet twice a month. The second saturday and the fourth saturday of every month from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Why do we meet regularly?

Firstly, this ministry is, by design, a “Faith Sharing” ministry.  It’s not a service ministry and it’s not a teach/instructional ministry.  It’s a clearing for Catholic men to compare notes on Catholicism in a man’s daily life.    We deal from the gut level.

The importance for this philosophy is found in the recognition that men oftentimes have simply no where else to turn to address real life issues in a spiritual setting.   It’s remarkable to discover how many pressing questions are held inside the hearts of Catholic men.  Not to appear sexist, but it seems that women don’t have as much trouble with this issue.  The willingness to be open, vulnerable, candid are sometimes difficult to find in Catholic men.  This ministry strives to create a clearing to address this area.

The benefit of “regularity” of meetings is realized in ways similar to many other experiences in life.  MacDonalds hamburger profits from its strategy to provide a consistent product and experience to its customers.   Likewise, Catholic men who have experienced our meetings may come once or twice then show up again weeks later.  We’ve been meeting for 8 years now.  And we always receive new attendees and enjoy welcoming back prior attendees.

Our format is pretty consistent.  We pre-publish a “contemplative” question in our bulletin and on our email list (which numbers over 100).  The question challenges many and moves them to attend.

Some prior questions  have been:

  • “Do you consider yourself a prayerful person?” or
  • “Do you think you can REALLY forgive?” or
  • “If Christ said to love your neighbor as yourself, then how do you love yourself?”

We also always read the reading of the upcoming Sunday.  We talk about them.

Conversation flows well and freely.
